Millionaire (The Late Show): a teacher's guide
Whole class or teams · All ages · A1 to C1
A late-night quiz show. Mr Moon hosts, Barry sits in the hot seat, and the class climbs the ladder to a million with multiple-choice questions and three lifelines.
What students do
Students read the question and four answers, argue it out, and pick one. Nothing is revealed until you press Final answer. A Why? card explains each answer, and at the end the class fixes the ones they missed to claim the million.
How to run it
- Whole class: go round the room and the class answers together. Teams (2 to 4): every team answers every question and climbs its own ladder.
- Class rules play every question. TV rules end the game on a wrong answer (teams drop to their last safe level).
- Lifelines, one each per game: 50:50, Ask the class (count hands for each letter) and Phone the teacher (30 seconds for a hint from you).
- Tap the clock, or press P, to pause while you explain.
- The eye button marks the right answer. Keep it off while the screen is on the board.
Ages and levels
Works for children, teens and adults, A1 to C1. Multiple choice makes it a safe first game for a new class.
Lesson ideas
- Grammar check: ten questions on one point, then talk through the Why? cards.
- Reading quiz: questions on a text the class read last lesson.
- Teams on mini whiteboards: every team writes its letter, then reveal together.
After the game
Millionaire is scored in Class results and has a worksheet. See how to print a worksheet.
