Phones can't connect: what to do

For teachers · 2 minutes

Most of the time the school network is blocking the game's live connection. Try mobile data, or play on the board: every phone game can be played without phones.

Step by step

  1. Read what the phone says

"Can't connect to your class from this network" means the network blocked the connection. "Can't find class 1234" means the phone reached us, but no board answered for that class number.

  2. If the network blocked it

Ask students to switch off Wi-Fi and use mobile data, if your school allows it. One phone that works per team is enough in team games.

  3. If it can't find the class

Check the class number on the board matches the one the phone typed, and that the game is still open on the board with phones switched on. Then scan the code again.

  4. Play on the board instead

Stop the Bus has Play on paper instead. The shootouts go back to Hands up. Story Adventure reads on the board without phones. The game carries on, nothing is lost.

If it doesn't work

What should I ask our IT team?

Phones and the board talk through a secure live connection (a WebSocket) to supabase.co. Ask IT to allow WebSocket connections to supabase.co on the student network.

A phone keeps saying "Reconnecting"

Its signal dropped. It finds the class again by itself in a few seconds, and keeps its team. If it doesn't, scan the code again.

I reloaded the board. Do students need to join again?

No. The board keeps the same class number, and phones find it again.
