A free Story Adventure for Young learners at CEFR A2 level. Topic: The new kid at lunch: making a friend.
Story
- It is your first day at a new school. You walk into the big, noisy lunchroom with your tray. You feel a little nervous because you don't know anyone. In the corner, a boy named Leo sits alone and draws a map, and at a busy table, kids laugh and talk about pirates.
- You sit down next to Leo. He looks up and smiles a little. 'Hi,' he says quietly. His map shows the playground with a big red X on it!
- You sit at the end of the busy table. The kids talk about a secret treasure on the playground. They are very loud, and nobody looks at you. You want to say something, but your voice feels very small.
- 'It's a treasure map!' Leo says in a whisper. 'My big sister says there is treasure on the playground. Do you want to explore with me?' You both finish lunch fast and run outside.
- 'Hi, I'm new!' you say in a brave voice. A girl with curly hair smiles at you. 'I'm Maya! We're pirates, and we're looking for treasure today. Do you want to be in our crew?'
- Lunch is almost over, and the kids around you stand up and leave. Now you sit alone at the table. Suddenly, you see a piece of paper on the floor. It is a map with a big red X!
- You run to the big old tree at the end of the playground. Its roots are long and twisty, like snakes. Between the roots, there is a small hole. You look inside and find a little tin box!
- You run to the sandbox and start to dig. The sand is warm and soft. You dig deeper and deeper. Suddenly, your fingers touch something hard!
