Past Tense Quest: The Regular & Irregular Verb Adventure
Teens race around a 24-space board, landing on prompts that challenge them to speak about past events using regular and irregular verbs, negatives, and questions. Teams compete by answering questions, sharing stories in pairs, and presenting short narratives. Chance cards add unpredictability and keep energy high.

Speaking prompts on the board
- START: Say one thing you did yesterday. Use a regular verb (e.g. 'I played football').
- Pair talk: Ask your partner 'Did you eat breakfast this morning?' They answer with yes/no + reason.
- Tell the group one irregular verb you used last week (e.g. 'I went to the cinema').
- Pair share: 'What didn't you do last weekend?' Partner guesses why.
- Quick presentation: Describe a past event in 3 sentences using both regular and irregular verbs.
- Group debate: Did you like school yesterday? Say yes/no + explain with past verbs.
- Pair talk: Ask 'Where did you go last summer?' Listen and repeat their answer.
- Say a negative sentence about yesterday (e.g. 'I didn't watch TV').
- Group share: Tell us about a past hobby. Did you enjoy it? Why/why not?
- Pair interview: Ask 3 questions about their past week using 'Did you...?'
- Quick presentation: Tell a short story (4–5 sentences) about something that happened to you.
- Group talk: What didn't you do last month? Give two negative sentences.
- Pair share: Ask 'What did you eat for dinner yesterday?' Describe their answer to the group.
- Say a funny thing that didn't happen to you yesterday. Use a negative past sentence.
- Group debate: Was your last holiday good? Why/why not? Use past verbs.
- Pair talk: Ask 'Did you break anything last year?' If yes, explain what happened.
- Quick presentation: Describe your best friend's last birthday. Use 3+ past verbs.
- Group share: Name two things you didn't enjoy last week and say why.
- Pair interview: Ask 'Did you study English yesterday?' Follow up with why/why not.
- Say three past sentences: one regular verb, one irregular verb, one negative.
- Group talk: Tell us about a past mistake. What did you do wrong? What did you learn?
