Leisure Time Board Game

A classic-style speaking board game where teens navigate 24 spaces, answering questions and completing tasks about their hobbies, free time, and how they enjoy themselves. Players use target vocabulary (be good at, go out with, laze around, enjoy oneself, hang out, take up, perform, improve, fix, entertain, compete) in real communicative contexts.

Speaking prompts on the board

  1. Ask your partner what sport or hobby they are good at and why they like it.
  2. Your team must agree: what is the best way to enjoy yourself on a rainy day?
  3. Act out your favorite leisure activity. Your partner guesses what you are doing.
  4. Describe a hobby you took up recently and explain why you wanted to try it.
  5. Ask your partner who they like to hang out with and what you do together.
  6. You have 30 seconds to present your favorite way to laze around after school.
  7. Stand up and mime playing a musical instrument. Your team guesses which one.
  8. Compare your free time now with your free time when you were younger.
  9. Discuss with your group: what sport or game do you compete in or watch?
  10. Explain how you can improve your skills in a hobby you enjoy.
  11. Ask your partner about something they fixed or repaired themselves recently.
  12. What is one way you entertain your friends when you go out together?
  13. Act out a performance you watched or performed in. Your partner describes it.
  14. Your team must agree on the best leisure activity for a birthday party.
  15. Describe your ideal weekend and explain what you would do to enjoy yourself.
  16. You have 60 seconds to convince your team to take up a new hobby with you.
  17. Stand up and show with your hands how you play your favorite sport or game.
  18. Ask your partner if they have ever gone out with friends to do something unusual.
