Blend Sprint: Snakes & Ladders
Young learners climb the board by reading and speaking about consonant blend words (bl, br, cl, cr, dr, fl, fr, gr, pl, pr, sk, sl, sm, sn, sp, st, sw, tr, tw). Players land on snakes and ladders; correct spoken responses determine movement. A communicative game where reading blends connects to real-world talk about daily life, animals, and actions.

Speaking prompts on the board
- Read the word 'play' aloud. Ask your partner what they like to play at school.
- Read 'black' and 'blue'. What colour is your school bag? Say the colour.
- Read 'tree' aloud. Act out climbing a tree for your team. Can they guess?
- Read 'bread' and 'breakfast'. Ask your partner what they ate for breakfast today.
- Read 'frog' aloud. Act out how a frog jumps. Your team guesses the animal.
- Read 'sleep' and 'sleepy'. Tell us what time you go to sleep every night.
- Read 'flower' and 'plant'. Your team must agree: what is your favourite flower?
- Read 'swim' and 'swimming'. Ask your partner if they can swim. Where do they swim?
- Read 'snow' aloud. You have 30 seconds to describe what you do in the snow.
- Read 'drink' and 'drink water'. What is your favourite drink? Describe it.
- Read 'street' aloud. Discuss with your group: what is on your street? Name three things.
- Read 'friend' and 'friendly'. Ask your partner: who is your best friend? Why?
- Read 'ground' aloud. Act out lying on the ground. Your team says what you are doing.
- Read 'train' and 'travel'. You have 30 seconds to tell us about a train journey.
- Read 'class' aloud. Ask your partner: what is your favourite subject in class?
- Read 'crisp' and 'crunchy'. Describe your favourite snack. What does it taste like?
- Read 'smile' and 'happy'. Stand up and show us your biggest smile. Why are you happy?
- Read 'slip' and 'slide'. Act out sliding on ice. Your team guesses what you are doing.
- Read 'spring' aloud. Your team must agree: what is the best thing about spring?
