A free Story Adventure for Teens at CEFR A2 level. Topic: Social studies time : Life in the Arctic.
Story
- You are visiting a small Inuit village in the Arctic. Your new friend Aput says, "Today is our family feast, and we need food. Do you like skiing?" Outside, the snow is white and the wind is very cold.
- You and Aput ski to the frozen sea. Uncle Siku is there. He is hunting for fish through a small hole in the ice. He smiles and says, "If you help me, we will have more food for the feast."
- Grandpa Nanuq is sitting in his warm house. He tells you stories about hunting seals when he was young. "Today we need food from the beach," he says. "We can go on my snowmobile, or we can walk."
- You sit next to the ice hole and wait quietly. After a long time, you feel a pull and catch a big fish! Uncle Siku is happy. "Now we need something green from the sea," he says. "Look on the rocks near the shore."
- You hold on tight as the snowmobile goes fast over the snow. It is loud, but it is much faster than walking! Soon you stop between the beach and a small hill. On the beach there are dark rocks, and on the hill there are small red things.
- You and Grandpa Nanuq walk to the beach. The walk takes two hours, and your feet are very cold. At last you see the sea and some dark rocks. Grandpa says, "There is food on those rocks, but we must be quick. It will be dark soon."
- You arrive at the dark rocks and find long, green seaweed. It is wet and salty. A woman from the village is there too, and she says, "Some people eat seaweed raw, and some people dry it first." You fill your bag with seaweed.
- You climb the hill, and you see that the small red things are berries! Some berries are bright red, and some are dark and soft. You have only one basket to fill for the feast.
